In case you’ve been living under a rock, this is an alert that there is a thing called the Democratic National Convention coming to Denver next week. Here are all the sordid details and obvious info.

The main media outlets seem to be making next week seem extremely daunting time to be (and especially live) in Denver. BUT – rather than looking at next week as hell on Earth in Denver – we at www.everythingweknowaboutdenver.com encourage you to look at some of the benefits of being in Denver for the week, regardless of your party affiliation.

Benefit #1: Free use of bikes!

Freewheelin on the street
In anticipation of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, Humana has teamed up with Bikes Belong, a nonprofit group dedicated to, “putting more people on more bikes more often,” as well as several other well-known bike industry leaders, to promote cycling, personal health and environmental sustainability.
The result of this partnership is anyone in Denver for the Democratic National Convention (DNC) or the Twin Cities for the Republican National Convention (RNC) will be able to take part in a Freewheelin experience – for free. During the convention week, each host city will be outfitted with 1,000 bikes and hundreds of volunteers to guide people through the experience. Be a part of the movement, it’s a great way to go.

Benefit #2: Really cheap drinks:

Harry’s in the Magnolia is offering locals $1 domestic drafts to locals – just give them a business card to show you work downtown! (4 pm to 9 pm M-T). I consider this pretty awesome. But hey, maybe that’s because I’m a lush.

Benefit #3: Free Art!

Target is sponsoring a day at the Denver Art Museum – go on Monday and admission is free!

Benefit #4: Denver goes Green!

Denver seems to be taking this opportunity to really shine as a community focused on sustainability, going green, being environmentally friendly, etc., etc. Whether it’s an excuse to showcase these things, or if it’s the DNC that pushed us to get there, this is a good thing. Click here to check out all of the sustainable, green type events that are going on next week. Also, DNC runs on beer!

Benefit #5: Some good music

There are some music events that would have been going on regardless (Jazz fest in Five Points), but some artists are coming because of the DNC – so why not take advantage of this chance to check them out?! (Willie Nelson, James Taylor, Crosby & Nash, Wyclef, Dierks Bentley, etc.)
