Three Sisters Cafe & Catering
Just went to Three Sisters Cafe & Catering today after reading 5280′s Top of the Town (it won best soup). Since I’ve been in Denver, I’ve been searching for the best soup location – something similar to Spoons out of Fort Collins would be ideal. I was hoping Three Sisters would be the place; however, it was a bit of a let down:( While the soup was pretty good, I had a bad experience overall.
We walked in around 12:30, end of lunch rush. I was with three other people – one of whom can’t have gluten. She was up first and the people helping her (girls that make the sandwiches) were really impatient and rude when she asked if any soups or items they had were gluten free. She ended up asking for them to make a lettuce wrap which they did make after looking at her like she was from a different planet. She gives Three Sisters a 2 overall and a 3 out of 5 for food.
Next up, a request for a panini with cookie. This order went well, however when it was delivered (they just bring it out, call your name and you grab it) they gave it to the wrong person and my friend got his meal, sans cookie. He had to go up and grab a new cookie which they gladly handed over. He gives the place 2 1/2 stars overall and 3 1/2 stars for food.
I order next and had the saddest experience of all. I ask for Sweet Potato Corn Chowder, which sounds super
delicious to me. I ask her, you still have that soup, right? Yes, she assures me they do. After making my way up to the front to pay… no sweet potato chowder. They’re out. I would have gotten something different, a panini, I say! I was craving just that soup, was told yes! we do still have that soup, and them my hopes and dreams were crushed. The contrastingly friendly guy who pours soup is sad for me too, and recommends the minestrone. I don’t want a plain ho hum soup at a best soup in town place, so I get the santa fe chicken tortilla. I also grabbed an Honest Tea from their fridge up front: completely frozen solid. I sit down to eat, feeling bad that I’ve dragged my friends here promising a top of the town experience, and it was a let down. In the end my soup was yummy and the cookie was good, poor overall visit.
The third gal we were with didn’t have any gripes, it was just okay. She gave it a 2 and 1/2 overall, the meal gets a 4/5.
Overall, Three Sisters does make a yummy soup, makes an okay panini (or lettuce wrap), has poor service from sandwich makers and the like, and frozen drinks that should not be frozen. I’d give it 2 1/2 stars out of 5. I’ll try it again in the Winter or on a rainy day, but my iced tea better be thawed next time.
