Free Wi-Fi in Denver
I get really upset when I have to pay for the internet. Even at home, where my neighbors mooch off of our paid for overpriced by the devil that is comcast internet, it’s frustrating to pay for such a thing. Why can’t we move to an advertiser paid for blanket of free wifi city by city? Well, this made me think I should tell our readers where you CAN get free internet in downtown Denver.
Other than driving around and parking outside of someone’s house with an open wifi connection, here are some spots we know of:
- 16th Street Mall. Yes, all along the 16th street mall you can use the Downtown Denver Partnership sponsored wifi. Also in Skyline Park. Pretty cool, I’d say.
- DIA. Denver International Airport, unlike some airports, generously offers a free internet connection!
- Pete’s Coffee. Unlike Starbucks, where you have to pay for such a thing, Pete’s coffee now offers internet per store location. Other coffee shops including Common Grounds, Leela’s, Gallop Cafe (Highlands), Dazbog, Java Creek, Metropolitan Mudd, Peaberry, Scooter Joe’s, CapuVino, Blackberries, and Paris on the Platte also offer free internet. If you are looking for a full list of coffee shops, there’s a great blog in town called Mile High Buzz that will give you the low-down on each!
- Denver Public Libraries – all locations!
- Bars – includiing Lodo’s, Highland Tavern, Sputnik, Rockbar,
- Hotels – this one is important because the major chains like to charge you up the a** for internet if you don’t have a card by something like TMobile – typically at about $12 to $24 for a 24 hour period. But, the Brown Palace, the Magnolia (need access code), and the Oxford downtown go above and beyond by also providing free wi-fi! Comfort Inn also has this perk.
- Whole Foods, Cherry Creek North and Apple Stores also offer free wireless.
Know of other places to get internet for free? Tell us in the comments – spread the word!
Side note: Wondering what wi-fi stands for? Wireless Fidelity.
earls Restaurant offers free wifi and a great environment!
During the DNC, I was sitting on the corner of 14th and Bannock, trying to use the free wifi that my computer said I could get, but it just kept taking me to a $14.95 a week page. I can’t remember the name of it now, but I guess that was far enough off the mall to not get the mall’s free wifi.
Other free wi-fi spots:
– Mad Greens Restaurants
– City o City (13th & Grant)
– The Red Trolley, a new gelato/coffee shop on 32nd & Zuni
– The Tattered Cover Book Stores
– And yes, most local coffee shops. I personally favor Hooked on Colfax, Cafe Europa, Stella’s, Illegal Grounds and The Gypsy House (those are each regular hang outs for me)
Thanks for your post! I [heart] free wi-fi, and those who make it available.
The Blake Street Tavern has free wifi, as does St. Mark’s coffeehouse and the Falling Rock Tap Hosue.
