A friend sent me this link today: Groupon for Denver. Essentially it’s “collective buying power” with a deal a day. If enough people sign up, you get the deal of the day. I’ve seen an art and framing deal, as well as a massage deal. Check it out if you like.

Street Sweeping

Denver is one month into street sweeping, and in a recent quest of mine to stop getting parking tickets, I signed up for reminders from www.keepitcleandenver.org. You can choose to get a heads up either by e-mail or text message and can choose how much advanced notice you need in order to keep yourself from getting slapped with a $25 citation. If anyone is looking for a more low tech system, you can also request stickers from the city for your calendar to remind yourself to move your car.

Denver Deals

Need some active persuits in your life? Sign up for the Daily Scout, and get deals to your inbox weekly. Cardholders receive discounts on active pursuits (such as skydiving, or sailing), spa type offers and typically a gym offer.

Follow (or just read em online) @DenverRestoWeek on twitter from the Denver CVB and find out about restaurant deals almost weekly.

Run with the Irish Snug crowd to train for a marathon, and get free food and cheap drinks for it! Run is at 6:15 or 6:30 on Thursdays and starts/ends at the Snug. Sign up for it, and after 10 runs you get a free shirt, too.

Denver Mags

Denver now had 4 magazines in town, exclusively about Denver. Some, not so great and will probably flounder within a couple issues. Some (5280) are great and have been around the block.

The general info on each is:

5280 – This is a staple of ours, we can’t help picking it up at the Tattered Cover stand and should probably just subscribe to save some money from the $ stand price. Quite a running history in comparison to the other mags in town now, it’s a grown up in comparison with professional staff, photography and advice. Their online info is also coming along nicely in comparison to even a year ago.

Denver Magazine – Newer to the scene, this magazine has had a bit of a bumpy ride. Only currently selling ads that I would actually place in the magazine (online doesn’t have enough traffic to make it worth it yet), it’s “up and coming.” And after their Summer 08 issue, which wasn’t exactly family friendly since it was a bathing suit cover, I noticed a small difference in advertisers. But if you are into Denver’s bar/club scene, this “lifestyle” type mag may be for you. They do have some pretty good release parties that I recommend checking out.

Denver Life – I haven’t personally checked out this mag except to flip through it and put it back, but, as it sounds, it’s a lifestyle magazine. Mainly featuring dining, shopping and real estate, it’s more like a sales pitch in my opinion. Light on content.

1 Magazine – New to the scene, it’s a fashion in Denver mag. This is it’s first issue so check it out. We’ll keep our eye on it to see if it makes it past a couple of issues in this tough industry.

Free trees in the hood

Do you live in the hood? Apparantly I do. And this is good because that means we get free trees through Denver Digs!

The neighborhoods that get free trees are: Baker, Barnum, West Barnum, Chaffee Park, Clayton, Cole, Elyria-Swansia, Five Points, Globeville, Jefferson Park, Lincoln Park, NE Park Hill, Ruby Hill, Skyland, Sunnyside, Sun Valley, Valverde, Villa Park, West Colfax, Westwood and Whittier.

If you did get a tree this year, register it with the city’s Greenprint Program to work together towards the Mile High Million. You can also donate a tree to someone as a gift… which is pretty cool (trees, as it turns out, are expensive)!

Hickenlooper on Good Morning America

New Meter Program

Downtown has a new “smart” meter program: finally! Meters on the following blocks will accept credit cards, and are solar powered (pretty cool)… more info here.
