This is a great event hosted by the AMC Cancer Fund and all proceeds go directly to the University of Colorado Cancer Center. This is a unique opportunity to experience Denver and support local cancer research, treatment, and prevention.

Denver’s First Dinner in White

We will be attending one of Denver’s not to miss events this summer – The ‘Dinner in White’ hosted by the AMC Cancer Fund on Saturday August 7th. The ‘Dinner in White’ is modeled after the Diner Blanc in Paris as a special fundraising event for the group. The AMC Cancer Fund is spreading the word about this special event by using social media marketing so be sure to check out their Facebook page. The location will be kept secret until one hour prior. Then, all registered guests dressed all in white will converge from all over the city to enjoy and evening under the lights of Denver with music, art, wine, and networking.

Halloween Cruiser Ride?

Just wanted to clear something up for a moment. There are two Denver Cruiser rides for Halloween. One is on the 28th (Cruisaroo) and the other is on actual Halloween. Check em out via the links here. Last year was a blast. Don’t forget about the pillow fight in Larimar Square, either… unless I’m misinformed and it’s not happening this year, in which case you should leave a comment!

Random: Strongest Blow Dryer in Denver!

HB was at Spill recently after a night of Comedy Works hypnotism. And, we just thought we’d inform you of a twice confirmed stat: the strongest hand blow dryer in Denver is in fact in the Spill ladies bathroom. No joke, it’s awkwardly strong. Here are the anecdotal events to confirm this fact:

1. Place a newly ordered double tall drink under the blow dryer and turn it on, you’ll find you’re wearing the ENTIRE drink with little left but ice in the glass.

2. Go to simply blow your hands dry, and it’s like you’ve placed your skin in G-force speed. Sort of like this.

Yep, it’s that strong.

Club 303

Yet another club opening in Denver: Club 303. Located at 23rd and Blake, this is what used to be the fun era-focused bar Polyesters. It’s a huge space with lots of potential. Opening is this Saturday, January 10th.

Club Opening: Hosted By Super Model Joanna Krupa + Open Bar 9-10pm

Suite 200 is actually sort of sweet.

UPDATE: We headed to Suite 200 FINALLY this past weekend. I know, we weren’t on top of it. Actually, HB was but never posted about it (shame on you!). I have to preface this with the fact that I was expecting on not liking the place at all and rolling my eyes at the crowd. But – it’s not the case. Suite 200 is actually pretty cool.

So, we arrived in the snowy weather with 5 guys and 3 girls who didn’t want to wait in line – who then “greased” the bouncer to get in – bottle service was overbooked. 3 girls could get in no problem but when with guys, expect to wait in line or order a bottle and pay like you’re in a bigger city than Denver.

Inside the club is pretty cool – neon lights and good bottle service decor with a long dance floor down the middle – bars on the edges. In fact, I felt like I was in a club that was in Chicago – not Denver. Which is sort of nice to have something larger and trendy in the downtown area that isn’t just trying to be different. The DJ was extremely similar to Monark or Spill type feel – as was the club vibe. Drinks are tall and stiff. Other reviews here. Suite 200 site here.

Basement & Wicked Garden

Basement, the new club below Martini Ranch, is now open. We haven’t been yet because we’re avoiding the long lines and general new club craziness. However, we’ll post an update when we do go! If you check it out, tell all what you think! Just wanted to share the word that the new hip thing is for all bars to have a bar within a bar. Funny stuff.

We did, however, stop by Wicked Garden (1403 Larimer St., owned by same owners as Jet), which used to be Open Bar which used to be Hush. And we’re here to tell you, it’s not new and improved. In fact, everything is exactly the same, except with more 80′s glam rock. Same layout, same decor, same $$$ drinks, even mostly same staff. So if you liked Hush or Open Bar, you’ll like Wicked Garden sans hip-hop and with more rock. We personally still aren’t fans – it tends to be a somewhat pretentious crowd in an overpriced bar that is trying to be rock and roll but feels like a club. Just doesn’t jive together.

Food Fight!

Just heard about Denver’s Comedy Food Fight. Next one is coming up on October 23rd @ 9 pm. $5 @ Lion’s Lair on 2022 E Colfax. Some of Denver’s nuttiest comedy happens here, and people can bring their own food and chuck it at the comedians, or the comedians can peg the audience – so look out.

Love the description of Lion’s Lair on the Food Fight site, so I’ll put it here too. It’s to the tee:

This place is as dive as you can get. Great exterior signage, crummy inside. Terrible pinball game “Twister”, good jukebox. Never needed to use the restroom there; would probably be scared of it. Live music at night, cool bartenders, cheap PBRs.

Suite 200

A new Larimer Square bar is opening – Suite 200. Brought to you by Lotus Night Clubs (who also own 5 degrees and Monark (as well as 24K above Monark). Based on the ads so far, I’m personally not excited and actually loathe its opening. Seems pretty snotty but if you want to sell your first born to get in, you’ll make it to the front of the new trendy bar line in no time.

Regardless, I know I will have to go there with a couple friends who love their club openings – so we’ll do a review whenever we head there. If you check it out in the mean time, let us know how it goes. Opening is Friday.

Atomic Cowboy

This past Friday we stopped by some of our favorite Colfax spots including the Atomic Cowboy (3237 E Colfax). Here’s why I like this bar: board games. Oh yes, I spent a good hour of my Friday evening playing Sorry! at the bar. I totally whooped the other players, too. Unfortunately, Connect Four was missing most of it’s pieces so we had to take our second choice, and Sorry was it.

Other than the board games, thoughts on the bar are:

The Good: kitchen is open late, board games (make it a drinking game if you like), affordable drinks, good service, good BBQ, decent bar food. decent decor/atmosphere.

The Bad: crowd is hit or miss (can be annoying at times), missing game pieces, service is best at the bar – not a come to your seat often type of place.
