The Future of DIA?

Santiago Calatrava a Spanish architect unveiled his plans for the proposed south terminal. This addition will include the Lightrail station that will connect DIA to Union Station downtown and a 500 room Westin hotel.

Personally I think the proposed plan looks great and compliments the current architecture at DIA. As a resident in downtown I look forward to the day I can jump on the train at Union Station and arrive at the new south terminal. To see the potential future of DIA view the video:

MCA Cafe

I’m sitting here doing some work at the MCA cafe and thought I’d do a little post. This place is one of my favorite spots to study, read or work on a laptop. On top of the Museum of Contemporary Art, it has great views, a lovely staff, and you can go walk around the museum if you get too stir crazy during a long work session. There is outdoor and indoor seating, free wifi (once you pay to enter if you aren’t a member). If you are a member, be sure to let them know so you get your 10% discount on food & drink.

The building itself is LEED certified and is, in my opinion, art by itself. I like the HUGE door at the entrance:) The museum is at 1485 Delgany St, we’ve briefly written about the museum before here. If you are here, also be sure to check out the bean bag room inside on the same floor as the rooftop.

Biennial of the Americas

If you haven’t taken advantage of the expansive Biennial of the Americas hosted here in Denver this month, you have a few more days left! The cultural celebration has events all over the city exploring the Western Hemisphere including lectures, art exhibits, performances and more. Be sure to check out McNichols at Civic Center Park and the art installations for “The Nature of Things” exhibit. It’s the first time since 1955 that the building is open to the public and its three floors are filled with works from 24 artists. They are sure to make you stop and think about the state of modern society — while a couple might make you stop and wonder if what you’re looking at really qualifies as art. the Rockpile! ESPN just had a little write up about Baseball’s furthest seats. We were happy the Rockies got the reward. Packing in summer before it ends? Don’t forget to head out to a Rockies game – and sit in the Rockpile, the best seat in the house for $4 per person (and $1 per kid). Also, we think, the place where the wave always starts.

The view from the farthest seat in baseball, ironically, ranks among the prettiest. Two of Colorado’s many 14,000-foot mountains, Longs Peak and Mount Evans, dominate the western skyline when the sunset turns it orange and purple. Downtown Denver’s unique cluster of skyscrapers tower above home plate. The entire ballpark looks back at you.

Denver’s First Dinner in White

We will be attending one of Denver’s not to miss events this summer – The ‘Dinner in White’ hosted by the AMC Cancer Fund on Saturday August 7th. The ‘Dinner in White’ is modeled after the Diner Blanc in Paris as a special fundraising event for the group. The AMC Cancer Fund is spreading the word about this special event by using social media marketing so be sure to check out their Facebook page. The location will be kept secret until one hour prior. Then, all registered guests dressed all in white will converge from all over the city to enjoy and evening under the lights of Denver with music, art, wine, and networking.
