Downtown Pavilions has a couple of Christmas deals I wanted to share:

Free gift wrap, and free delivery: Take your packages purchased at Denver Pavilions with your receipts to PostNet, located on Level 1 in the South Plaza for free gift wrap and free delivery in Downtown.

Also get a dinner and a movie gift certificate after purchasing $250 at retailers in one day at Denver Pavilions. Dinner and a movie certificates are redeemable at PostNet on Level 1, South Plaza.

And a good cause: Weekends in December from 1-5pm, inside the Barkin’ Boutique and Bakery. Santa is coming to town and he’d love to meet you and your pet! Why not say “Happy Holidays” while helping homeless pets? With a $10 donation to the Denver Dumb Friends League you will receive a photo of Santa and your cherished companion animal. Santa will visit our downtown location inside the Barkin’ Boutique and Bakery.

Also, if you’re looking to shop in Larimer Square, be sure to go here for free parking sign-up. It’s only good for one day but not a bad deal.

Street Sweeping

Denver is one month into street sweeping, and in a recent quest of mine to stop getting parking tickets, I signed up for reminders from www.keepitcleandenver.org. You can choose to get a heads up either by e-mail or text message and can choose how much advanced notice you need in order to keep yourself from getting slapped with a $25 citation. If anyone is looking for a more low tech system, you can also request stickers from the city for your calendar to remind yourself to move your car.

And if you’re looking for useless information to wow and amaze your friends, we’ve got you covered — In 2008, 41,895 cubic yards of debris was removed from 92,225 miles of Denver streets. Yuck!

Free Cab Ride

New Meter Program

Downtown has a new “smart” meter program: finally! Meters on the following blocks will accept credit cards, and are solar powered (pretty cool)… more info here.

Parking in Downtown Denver

Having lived here 3 years and not being a high roller, I’ve figured out some very good parking arrangements (read: cheap) that I’m going to share with you. Some are tips, some are sneaky spots and the last is a service I just discovered that seems pretty worth it. So here it is:

Somewhat Obvious Tips:

Don’t pay the meters on Sunday or Holidays, it’s free.
Many of the “loading zones” and “taxi cab” spots have hours posted and you can actually park there in those not specified, read the signs!
Park somewhere that has street sweeping once a month? Sign up for reminders from MyMotorMaid for free and avoid those pricey tickets (more than a meter ticket!)
You can actually get a ticket for parallel parking too far from the curb. The rule of thumb is less than a foot, so re-park if you are too far away.

Sneaky Spots:

Denver Pavillions Parking Garage (enter on Welton/15th): If you see a movie (or can make it into the theater), you can validate your ticket for up to 3 hours – voila! free parking downtown!)
Tabor Center Parking Garage (enter on Larimer/17th): Just walk into the Cheesecake Factory front desk and ask a host/hostess for a validation for the parking garage. I’ve never been asked if I ate there and I don’t think they care, but if you feel guilty buy a slice of cheesecake and grab your ticket – it’s much more satisfying than paying for parking!

Cool Service: Park By Phone is a service that lets you essentially phone in your parking lot or meter payment. You just pay $5.95 upfront and then park in any AMPCO system lots (the site has a list). Then when you park instead of paying there you just dial the number for the place and it pays your lot fee for you. The great thing is it’s usually a cheaper rate than what the lot lists, plus you can always pay by credit card (get your points) and don’t have to fumble with cash/change. It’s a 10% surcharge at the end of the month for the service – but my friends who use it say they still spend less overall (the $12 lot down the street costs them $5 a day plus 10%).

Street Sweepers!

If you are like me and park on a street in Denver, rather than a garage, chances are you have to move your car one random day a month for street sweepers. If this is you, check out this great site by MotorMaid – it lets you enter your email or phone and will email or text you reminders to move your car on the applicable day/time. I think that beats a street sweeping ticket.
